Mare Lightning Bug & her filly Kachina - Below

"Buggy" was a rescued quarter horse who had been savagely attacked by a stalliion, was lame, and was given up as "unride-able."  They were wrong.  She just need some good nursing and lots of TLC.

My Son & Guinea Pig "Jazzie"

Many people don't realize that small animals need to be rescued, too.  Birds, guinea pigs, rats, mice, even chinchillas [which we've rescued] are available through the shelters.  Don't forget that large livestock other than horses, such as goats, burros, and donkeys need good homes too!  Yes, buying from a reputable breeder is an option, but so is adoption!  Lighting Bug was a registered appaloosa quaterhorse with a valuable pedigree, and won many ribbons at barrel racing on the rodeo circuit until her leg injury--which healed with time and TLC.  There was no reason to have discarded her.  The previous owner's loss was our gain.
